Technical Program & Organizers

The Society of Rheology 92nd Annual Meeting will have ten thematic sessions, a poster session (which includes the annual Student/Post-doc Poster Competition), and the Gallery of Rheology Contest. The plenary lectures will be given by Petia Vlahovska (Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics, Northwestern University), Michael Solomon (Chemical Engineering, University of Michigan) and the 2021 Bingham Medalist, Jan Vermant (Department of Materials, ETH Zürich). A presentation will also be given by the 2021 Metzner Awardee, Quan Chen (Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences).

Please note that the Annual Meeting is being planned as an in-person conference, while maintaining safety and social distancing measures. However, we know that pandemic-related limitations exist. Hence, we are offering a limited virtual experience for members who cannot attend. The virtual events include live streaming of the plenary sessions, live streaming of the Society business meeting, and participation in the Gallery of Rheology Contest and the Pre-recorded Flash Presentations virtual session (see below). We also anticipate a session on Thursday morning for live virtual networking.

Authors should submit an abstract by Monday 7 June 2021 using the SoR Abstract Submission Web App. The planned sessions and the corresponding chairs are given below.

Pre-recorded Flash Presentations (virtual)

Prospective presenters of the Pre-recorded Flash Presentations must submit abstracts online by Friday 13 August 2021. The presentation should be around 10 minutes. The video file of the pre-recorded flash presentation must be in MP4 format and must not be more than 30 MB. Keep the video resolution to 1080p/2K or smaller, use the H.264 video codec (most common), and maintain a frame rate of around 23.98 fps. Files recorded in Zoom or equivalent video conferencing software programs are typically suitable for streaming.

The file must be uploaded to the File Upload Site by Friday 1 October 2021. To access the Video Upload Site, you will need the paper ID and password from your abstract submission. Upon completion of the upload, the web browser will display the date and time of the upload. The status of the upload can also be checked by re-entering the website. Note that the upload site will enforce the MP4 format and the not more than 30 MB requirements.

Upload File

The video files will be uploaded to the SoR private YouTube channel the week before the conference and be made available throughout the conference for asynchronous viewing. Please follow YouTube copyright guidelines (watch YouTube Copyright Basics) when preparing your presentation. The links to the YouTube videos will be on the meeting website, on pages restricted to those registered for the meeting. The YouTube videos will be removed after the end of the meeting.
