In spray drying applications a number of challenges can arise due to the behavior of used powder. One such problem is the powder adhering/sticking to the walls of a spray dryer, which typically occurs near the outlet of the spray dryer. This accumulation can result in blockage which results both in downtime and loss of product to resolve such issues. A novel approach, using a shear cell tester on an air bearing device is introduced. Additionally the influence of both temperature as well as relative humidity on the stickiness of the powder is also investigated.
